This is America!!

Clara Barton introduced the Parade of Famous Americans.
Theodore Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Clara Barton, and Harriett Tubman

This pic is dark but there's Sally Ride, Betsy Ross, Statue of Liberty, George and Martha Washington and more.
The Lights of Freedom
This was a neat song where the lights were off. There was a patriotic power point presentation and the kids turned on flashlights in sync with the states being listed.
JFK and Jackie Kennedy, Amelia Earhart, Colin Powell and more...
Lil' Sis and Clara
We so enjoyed Joyner's 2nd grade play, This is America!!

Soccer has started!

pretty in pink!
ready for soccer on Tuesday
Yes- soccer started on Tuesday night. It seemed early and we thought we would freeze. It turned out not to be so cold and Meri Alan had lots of fun! Kenneth and I think she goes for the post game snacks and to play with her friends. We have another game tonight. We're also excited about seeing Sara Frances' play tomorrow. I'll be sure and post some pics of the "famous Americans!"

Red, White and Blue Day

Meri Alan had red, white, and blue today at Calvary! They've been learning all about America! Sara Frances has been learning about America/Presidents/Famous Americans too. Next Friday we get to go watch the 2nd grade play at Joyner. It's about America as well. Sara Frances is excited about her role as Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross.

Getting Excited!

We're getting excited about visiting "the most magical place on earth" in just a few weeks. These pictures were taken last spring and knowing we're headed to sunny Florida is helping to get us through the rest of this winter! We've never experienced the "meal plan" before and have signed up this time. There are several places we haven't tried yet and decided to give the plan a try. When you turn 10 you have to buy an adult meal plan so we decided to try it while Sara Frances is still 8. So far it's taken a bit more planning but I think we'll be glad when we're there and we know where we'll be eating more often.
Here's a sketchy plan we've made so far with our scheduled meals:
Arrival day: evening at Magic Kingdom
Day 1: morning at Magic Kingdom then head over to Disney Studios at some point and eat dinner at Mama Melrose
Day 2: Epcot all day
Akershsus Princess Storybook lunch and Teppan Edo dinner
try to catch Illuminations fireworks show
Day 3: Magic Kingdom morning then 11:55 brunch at Park Fare (Grand Floridian)
spend afternoon at Disney Studios or Epcot
Day 4: Magic Kingdom morning/lunch at Plaza Restaurant
head to Epcot at some point
dinner at LeCellier (Epcot)
Day 5: whatever we want! MK/AK?
Go home the next day :)

Double Stuff Oreo Cookie Suckers

Sara Frances' class is having a Valentine cookie swap tomorrow. We made these cookie suckers for her to take. While we were at it we made some for Meri Alan's class too. I hope you all have a Happy Valentine's Day!!
Double Stuff Oreo Cookie Suckers
1 pkg double stuff Oreos
1 lb. choc melts
supplies needed: sucker sticks and bags, and decorations (optional)
Microwave cookies (a few at a time for approx. 10 seconds) just to soften the middle. While holding the cookie between fingers-twist sucker stick into place. Refrigerate to firm middle. In the meantime, melt choc and then dip the cookies begin sure to coat around stick. Allow excess to drip away. Place on wax paper to set. Attach decoration with small amt. of melted chocolate. Wrap and secure with ribbons.
*I just add my decorations while the chocolate is still melted.

A Trip to the Post Office

Mail Girl Meri Alan- making her deliveries Mrs. Francille's Mail Carriers
How cute is this?? Before departing Calvary for the Post Office each child got to deliver a piece of mail to each person in the class.
Addi (or Maddi? not sure), Meri Alan, Leigh Michael, Lydia Beth, and Bailey
Mr. Rico and the class at the Post Office
I had so much fun going with Meri Alan's preschool class to the Post Office today. I went on this same trip with Sara Frances back when she was in preschool. I had forgotten how interesting it is to go behind the counter and see all of the mail being sorted. It's truly amazing how our mail actually gets to our home and pretty quickly at that. We battled the rain this morning but it was well worth it! Fun times!!

Signing my Valentines!

Health Works

Mary Carson, Lilla, Sara Frances

Mrs. Donna

Mrs. McGraw's class
Liza, SF, Billytney

My pictures do not do this place justice. It's really awesome and I can't believe it's in Tupelo!!
Sara Frances can't stop talking about all of the fun she had on today's field trip. I loved it too. I'm so glad I got to go and now I'm anxious to take Meri Alan. Not only was it super fun, it was very educational as well. I learned a lot that I didn't know. Did you know it can take 12 times of tasting a food before you like it? Try telling that to Meri Alan. ha! I knew this would be a great place with Mrs. Donna in charge but it was unbelievable. Can't wait to visit again.

Sun Kai

In all of my years in Tupelo, I've never been to Sun Kai. I went with Sara Frances' class to Health Works today. After Health Works, the class ate at Sun Kai in East Tupelo. They are finishing up learning about Chinese New Year. It was good food and lots of fun! They taught the children about the Chinese culture and even let them take turns parading around the restaurant in the dragon.
